The Hallertau hop country is of course known as the largest continuous hop-growing area in the world. As an ideal complement to your trip here, we recommend a short excursion to the hop gardens, accompanied by a real hop farmer himself, of course.

A Guest in the Home of Hops
Harvesting is the bussiest time of the year. But this doesn't mean that there is not much work to be found the rest of the time. After all "the hops wants to see its master every day" a popular saying goes. And that is exactly what the farmers do. Much knowledge and experience is needed to grow this plant.
The best time for this short experience is from late spring to August.
You start at the farm and meet with your guide, the farmer himself. You then cycle together to the hop gardens and have a close look. Inspect the plants, touch and smell. Are they growing well and healthy?
Your farmer-guide will tell you everything you want to know about the cultivation of this very special plant.
Have a break with a beer and then head back to the farm. You will get a tour of the farm and have the opportunity to climb a hop turret, that puts you up to seven meters high and is used for work on the wires overhead.
